These capsules provide 100iu of vitamin E - one of the most important antioxidants known. Vitamin E is actually a group of related chemicals that all provide antioxidant protection from free-radicals, the products of oxidation.

While other antioxidant supplements work in a general way to offer protection from oxidation, the vitamin E group is known to specifically protect cell membranes from the oxidation of fats and lipids. Since this process occurs all the time, vitamin E is especially important to keep cells healthy and maintain protection from oxidation. Other specific roles of vitamin E seem to include protection of neurones, cancer prevention and lowering of cholesterol.

Although research is ongoing, it is clear that without enough vitamin E, cell membranes would suffer enormously, and they would be susceptible to all manner of degredation, disease and dysfunction.
