Feverfew
Feverfew belongs to the botanical family which includes daisies and sunflowers. It contains an active ingredient called parthenolide which appears to block the substances in the body which constrict blood vessels and cause inflammation.
Feverfew, is most commonly used for migraines, which is believed to be caused by the constriction of blood vessels, which triggers the release of histamine.
Feverfew has been used for this health condition, since the 1970’s. In a study carried out at this time, it was found that migraine sufferers who took feverfew, experienced less frequent and less intense migraines than those who took a placebo pill.
Feverfew may also aid PMS, particularly menstrual cramps, which are caused by an increase in prostaglandins. These hormone-like substances increase inflammation in the body.
Feverfew has also been used for its anti-inflammatory actions in arthritic patients.
Take 250mg of feverfew daily, to help prevent migraine headaches.
