Potassium
Potassium has many roles in the body. Being an electrolyte it is involved in the regulation of the body’s water system, in nerve conduction, muscle contraction and plays a role in the metabolism of protein and carbohydrates.
Potassium is a mineral which is required for a healthy nervous system and to maintain a regular heart beat. Potassium has been used for stroke, to aid proper muscle contraction, and to maintain the right water balance in the body.
Potassium is also important for chemical reactions within the cells, to maintain normal blood pressure and for the transmission of nerve impulses.
Signs of potassium deficiency include dry skin, acne, chills, constipation, depression, insomnia, respiratory distress and salt retention.
