Selenium
People on weight-loss diets, vegans and vegetarians may not be getting enough selenium. In the UK, selenium intakes are very low - on average only half of the recommended Daily Allowance is consumed. Selenium can act as an anti-inflammatory and can, therefore be useful for arthritis and for allergies.
In Finland when selenium intakes dropped below 30mcg it was declared a national health hazard and all fertilisers had to incorporate selenium.
